FIRMWARE UPDATES

Firmware updates are an essential part of maintaining network devices. They not only secure your devices but also ensure continuous improvements in functionality, stability, and performance.

Security Enhancements

Firmware updates address security vulnerabilities identified in earlier versions. These vulnerabilities could be exploited by hackers, putting your network at risk.

By regularly updating your firmware, you protect your network from malware, ransomware, data breaches, and other cybersecurity threats that could arise from outdated software.

Security updates often include encryption enhancements, making it more difficult for unauthorized parties to intercept or manipulate your data.

Performance Improvements

Updates correct software bugs that may degrade device performance, ensuring smooth operation.

Enhancements may improve memory usage, processing speed, and overall device responsiveness.

By resolving performance issues and bugs, firmware updates help to avoid unexpected downtimes or device malfunctions, maintaining network stability.

Feature Updates

Each firmware update may introduce new features and capabilities, giving users access to the latest tools and network functionalities.

New firmware may allow for more granular control over device settings, offering improved customization and network management options.

Updates may introduce compatibility with newer technologies, ensuring your devices work seamlessly with the latest hardware and software solutions.

Compliance and Compatibility

Staying up to date with firmware ensures that devices remain compliant with evolving regulatory requirements, such as cybersecurity laws and data protection standards.

Firmware updates ensure that devices maintain compatibility with industry standards, protocols, and certifications, such as ISO and IEEE standards.

As your network infrastructure grows, keeping firmware updated ensures that all devices communicate effectively and remain compatible with each other.

PROPER DEVICE INSTALLATION AND CARE

Proper installation and maintenance of network devices are key to ensuring their longevity and preventing hardware failures. The following section outlines the requirements for setting up and maintaining your devices.

Devices should be securely mounted. Ensure that routers, gateways, and switches are properly affixed. Devices should not be left to move freely or placed in unstable locations where they can fall or be damaged.

Proper ventilation is crucial for the efficient operation of networking equipment. Ensure that devices are placed in ventilated areas to prevent overheating. Avoid stacking devices on top of each other and ensure there is adequate space around each device for air circulation.

Place devices in environments that are free from excessive dust, moisture, and extreme temperatures. Avoid placing equipment in areas with direct sunlight or near heat sources. Maintaining an optimal environment will help extend the lifespan of your devices.

Use appropriate cable management techniques to organize and secure cables connected to your devices. This not only ensures a tidy setup but also prevents accidental disconnections and reduces the risk of physical damage to the cables and connectors.

Ensure that devices are connected to a stable and reliable power supply. Surge protectors or uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) can be used to protect against power fluctuations and outages.

CLIENT RESPONSIBILITIES

To ensure the ongoing security and performance of networking devices, clients have an active role in keeping devices updated and properly maintained.

Regular Firmware Updates

Clients should check for firmware updates at least once a quarter to ensure they are running the latest version. This helps avoid security risks and ensures optimal performance.

Methods to Check Updates

Visit our Firmware & SDK Downloads page for the latest updates.

Subscribe to our newsletter to receive the latest firmware updates notifications directly to your inbox.

During the initial setup of your device, you will be prompted to subscribe to our new firmware version newsletter.

For routers and gateways, starting from firmware version 00.07.07.1, the device WebUI displays notifications about new firmware and modem version availability. This also applies to switches beginning with firmware version 00.01.02.

Navigate to the System -> Firmware window in the WebUI to find the latest device and modem firmware versions available on the server.

From firmware version 00.07.09 onwards Navigate to Services -> Events reporting, there you can configure the events reporting functionality to receive notifications about new firmware versions.

If you use our Remote Management System (RMS), you will receive notifications about new firmware version availability.

Our Teltonika RMS and Teltonika RutOS applications will notify you about new firmware version availability.

Security Best Practices

Clients should follow security guidelines whenever a device is exposed to the internet in some way.

Before performing any firmware update, clients should back up their device configurations and ensure all upgrade procedures are followed as per the device's user manual to avoid losing custom settings in the event of an update failure. After firmware updates, it is important to test the device’s performance and ensure that all systems are functioning correctly.

Clients are responsible for ensuring the proper installation of devices by following the guidelines provided and seeking professional installation services when necessary.

In case of any issues or uncertainties related to firmware updates contact our technical support team for assistance.
