Learn the ins and outs of Teltonika Networks' remote management system RMS, from basic setup to advanced features for effective management. Start Working with RMS – Everything You Need to Know Tuesday, 3 October 2023 at 15:00:00 UTC Register Remote management enhances the efficiency of your networking solutions while reducing costs. But how best to use it, and where to begin? In this webinar, join the Product Owner of the Remote Management System (RMS) of Teltonika Networks, Tomas Mikolaitis, and learn how to get started with this universal remote management tool. SPEAKERS Questions & Answers What would it take to see the mobile band information in the list view? Currently, RMS does not collect mobile band information that the device uses. However, with the Task Manager, it is possible to pull such data by creating a custom task. For help with Task Manager, contact our support or refer to our Wiki: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RMS_Task_Manager , https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Gsmctl_commands#Get_network_information We are using a cellular network with a custom APN that is not seeing public internet, what do you recommend to manage my routers (around 200 RUT-240)? Is there any local version of RMS to host within our network? RMS does have the local version, which partners can host themselves. For more details, contact Teltonika Networks sales representatives. However, I suggest you consider opening communication with standard RMS in your private APN network. All IP addresses and corresponding ports required for individual services are provided in our Wiki: https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/What_IP_addresses_and_ports_are_used_by_RMS%3F . Where can we find a list of CLI commands (if there is that list)? Teltonika Networks RUTOS is based on the OpenWrt project, and the majority of CLI commands can be referenced from it. Without that, you can also connect to our device CLI, and by tapping "TAB" two times, it will return possible commands. Also, you can check our Wiki ( https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/Main_Page ) for configuration and control examples. Can the transfer of a device from one former account be easily placed in a different account using RMS alone, or does this require Teltonika support to assist? Other OEMs require the chain of custody to be done by support. Yes, RMS users with given rights can transfer devices from one RMS account to another, without any intervention of our support team. To achieve this, device(s) must be unregistered ( https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RMS_Device_menu#Unregister_device.28s.29 ) from the old account and registered to a new one ( https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RMS_Devices#Adding_manually ). - Efficient Planning of Urban Public Transport Systems
The RUT956 cellular router enables efficient planning of urban public transport systems. Click here to learn how. Efficient Planning of Urban Public Transport Systems HIGHLIGHTS ✔ When a city is planning its public transport system, the efficiency of that system lives and dies on the quality of its usage and demand data. ✔ To automate on-bus data collection, our versatile RUT956 joined forces with the FMB125 vehicle GPS tracker by Teltonika Telematics for optimal accuracy and connectivity. ✔ Relying on the router’s reliable inter-device connectivity and the tracker’s positioning precision, this solution ensures seamless, real-time data flow from the moving bus to the control room server. THE CHALLENGE – SISYPHUS TAKES THE BUS Traffic jams are the worst kind of jam, with only a printer’s paper jam giving it any real competition. As populations continue to grow, this problem will only exacerbate over time. Private vehicles are part of that, yes, but so are public ones. From a public transport perspective, every bus on the road is an added percentage to the road-clog statistic, and so the frequency of each bus line must be planned very carefully and reassessed frequently. In theory, the primary variable for this planning is simple: how many people get on each bus? If you have the answer, you can simply crunch the numbers and allocate public transport based on actual demand. In practice, the sheer amount of data points makes continuously collecting and analyzing these numbers a Sisyphean task demanding significant human and financial resources. Luckily, real life is not the same as Greek mythology (we have enough problems without Zeus throwing a tantrum every half an hour, thanks). Public transport planners can implement an automated system rather than continuously roll a boulder uphill. Considering the vast number of buses and their mobile nature, what would such an automated system look like? TOPOLOGY THE SOLUTION – EFFICIENT DATA FOR EFFICIENT PLANNING An automated bus passenger count system would require a device for counting each passenger getting on and off the bus and a device for marking at which point on the bus’s route they do so. These two devices would then need to communicate wirelessly with the control room server for the data to be processed in real-time. Alright, we got the theory down. For our solution to fulfill these requirements, we teamed up with Teltonika Telematics and their specialized equipment. Internet protocol (IP) cameras are mounted on each entrance to the bus and connect to our RUT956 industrial cellular router via an Ethernet cable. Also connected to this router, this time via an RS-485 serial port using the ‘Log Mode’ function, is Telematics’ FMB125 vehicle GPS tracker and LV-CAN200 vehicle CAN adapter. The bus’s e-ticketing system is also integrated into the solution for added data reliability, and is connected to the router via an RS-232 cable – yet another of the many interfaces the versatile RUT956 is compatible with. The cameras and ticketing system detect passengers getting on and off the bus, and the GPS tracker and CAN adapter track the bus’s coordinates as the passenger count is changed. The data collected by these devices is then sent to the server in real-time via the secure and reliable internet connection provided by RUT956. The final outcome? Efficiency meeting demand; a comprehensive, reliable, and automated stream of data with which to plan an optimized public transport system allocation with accuracy. LIKE THIS STORY? Teltonika’s RUT956 and TSW202 power Santiago’s smart surveillance with dual SIM 4G, load balancing, VPN security, and remote management. How RUT956 and TSW202 Powers Urban Surveillance In Chile HIGHLIGHTS ✔️ Rising crime is costing Chile 2.6% of GDP each year, with iconic spots like Santiago’s La Piojera forced to close early as businesses, consumers, and the wider economy take the hit. ✔️ ️ SISTEK , a Chilean systems integrator, developed an outdoor smart surveillance pole to improve public safety in Santiago. The unit combines lighting, video monitoring, and mobile connectivity in a single, rugged structure . ✔️ Inside the pole, Teltonika’s RUT956 router delivers dual SIM 4G with failover, load balancing, VPN, and firewall for secure connectivity. The TSW202 PoE switch supplies power and data to cameras, ensuring the whole system stays online. THE CHALLENGE – FIGHTING CRIME WITHOUT INFRASTRUCTURE Rising crime is costing Chile 2.6% of GDP annually around US$8.2 billion, as iconic spots like Santiago’s La Piojera are forced to shut earlier and sales plummet, according to Reuters . This surge in violence is pushing urban areas like Santiago to turn to technology for improved safety and visibility. However, many public spaces lack the network infrastructure required for traditional video surveillance. Running fiber or wired connections can be costly and time-consuming, especially in outdoor environments where flexibility and speed of deployment are critical. Authorities and system integrators need reliable video access from anywhere, the ability to control devices remotely, and secure real-time data transmission. Traditional setups do not offer the flexibility to meet these demands. Wired systems also require extensive infrastructure, making them unsuitable for rapidly expanding urban surveillance. A new solution was needed to provide high-quality video streaming, stable connectivity, and centralized control in a completely self-contained unit. Topology The solution – A smart pole powered by a router and a switch SISTEK designed a smart surveillance pole that houses all essential equipment in a sealed, weather-resistant structure. The pole features a galvanized steel body with internal compartments for electronics, a luminaire for public lighting, and a 1KVA UPS to ensure continued operation during power outages. The core of the connectivity solution is the Teltonika's RUT956 industrial cellular router, built for industrial applications. It connects to TSW202 , a Layer 2+ managed PoE switch, which distributes both data and power to two surveillance cameras. The first camera enables remote directional control and streaming through peer-to-peer communication. A second camera, with built-in license plate recognition, captures and transmits vehicle data in real time. The RUT956 router ensures reliable TCP/IP connectivity, while connected IP cameras use RTSP and ONVIF protocols for live video streaming and seamless integration with video management systems. This dual SIM router uses two cards from different carriers. If one connection fails, the router automatically switches to the other. Load balancing helps optimize network performance under varying network conditions. With Ethernet, RS232/RS485, and digital I/Os, the RUT956 connects cameras, sensors, controllers, and alarms through a managed PoE switch, turning each pole into a self-contained urban security hub. Authorities can monitor streets continuously, detect incidents, and track vehicles without interruptions, even in places lacking wired infrastructure. To manage the system remotely, SISTEK relies on Teltonika’s Remote Management System . With RMS Management, Connect, and VPN services, operators can monitor signal strength, check data usage, push firmware updates, and troubleshoot issues from a distance. No physical presence is required for maintenance, making the solution ideal for field deployment. This smart pole transforms standalone locations into secure, connected monitoring points. It helps the city to expand its surveillance networks quickly, with minimal disruption and full visibility. The result is safer, more secure streets where incidents can be detected quickly, authorities can respond faster, and communities benefit from enhanced public safety.
