eSIM™ for unmatched connectivity capabilities

As you might have already guessed from its name, this new member of Teltonika’s device family has an eSIM™ card! The e in eSIM™ stands for embedded, meaning that this SIM card is built into the cellular router. An eSIM™ card enables seamless connectivity by allowing the router to switch between different carriers without the need for switching physical SIM cards.

For instance, upon receiving a better offer from another network carrier, you can quickly and easily switch networks and take advantage of competitive deals using the eSIM™ card.


The RUT241 eSIM™ also allows to instantly change carriers manually, using the WebUI of RutOS or Teltonika’s Remote Management System (RMS) remotely*, granting easy and convenient eSIM™ profile management. 


*Changing via RMS is planned to be implemented later this year.

The ability to switch carriers remotely is also very useful for getting your routers ready for deployment in a different country. There’s no need to buy a handful of physical SIM cards for your networking devices—simply switch their carriers remotely before they cross the border and wish them bon voyage!

Dual SIM for dual flexibility

Our RUT241 eSIM™ router isn’t equipped with just eSIM™. For even more flexibility, it gives you both: eSIM™ and regular SIM. The traditional SIM slot allows you to enjoy local carrier plans, optimising costs and coverage based on device location. Meanwhile, eSIM™ provides a seamless, programmable alternative that can easily and remotely switch between multiple carriers.

This dual SIM functionality ensures continuous Internet access by leveraging multiple networks, minimising downtime, and maximising coverage in areas where one provider might be insufficient. Further safeguarding your uninterrupted connection is the automatic switching capabilities of this device, ensuring that in case of downtime, your connectivity wouldn’t be affected!

Moreover, this eSIM™ router supports up to seven different profiles, allowing for seamless switching between them. This capability is essential for maintaining uninterrupted connectivity and offers exceptional flexibility for your networking needs, ensuring you stay connected without any disruptions while providing you with seven eSIM™ profiles and one physical SIM profile for a total of eight functional profiles.

A good use case for this functionality is cross-border transportation applications, like passenger buses. This device allows uninterrupted connectivity for passengers even as the bus crosses the border. The RUT241 eSIM™ will also find a home in freight logistics applications, allowing truck drivers and on-board tracking equipment to operate smoothly across borders.

GSMA for Remote SIM Provisioning

This eSIM™ router complies with the GSMA SGP.22, SGP.23, and SGP.24 standards. These standards facilitate Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP) for IoT devices, enabling them to switch network operators without physical SIM card replacement.

Each of these specifications has a different purpose within the eSIM™ card ecosystem. SGP.22 provides the overarching architecture, the SGP.23 dives into the technical specifications required to implement that architecture, and the SGP.24 ensures that these implementations are correctly tested and validated. 

TPM 2.0 for increased security

At Teltonika, the security of our products is paramount. The RUT241 eSIM™ is no exception, featuring a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 security chip. This is a specialised hardware component of the device, designed for system integrity measurements and cryptographic key creation and use.

With TPM 2.0 technology, you can configure your device according to your needs with utmost security! This tamper-resistant hardware chip is combined with the main processing chip on the device, allowing you to securely store cryptographic keys and use them for many cryptographic operations, including encryption and description, without the keys ever leaving TPM.


We currently offer a library within our SDK specifically designed for building software on a particular platform. This library enables seamless integration of TPM 2.0 functionality into your applications.


Does this router have more security features? Well, we’re glad you’ve asked! Our RUT241 eSIM™ router supports a wide range of VPN services, including OpenVPN, IPsec, SSTP, Stunnel, ZeroTier, and many more. On top of robust VPN support, this cellular router is also equipped with attack prevention features, like DDOS prevention, port scan prevention, and a firewall.

4G LTE connectivity

This 4G router is equipped with 4G LTE Cat 4 connectivity, providing speeds of up to 150 Mbps. This ensures an improved network efficiency, providing you with high-speed and low-latency services which is ideal for real-time data applications.

Compactness

Just like the RUT241 cellular router, our RUT241 eSIM™ router is one of the most compact cellular routers in Teltonika’s portfolio. At a size of only 83 x 25 x 74 mm, it’s perfect for spaces that couldn’t fit a larger IoT device, allowing your connectivity solution to thrive!

Operating environment

This 4G LTE router is designed to withstand extreme environmental conditions, boasting an impressive operating temperature range of -40°C to 75°C. This wide temperature tolerance ensures reliable performance in frigid and scorching settings, making it ideal for diverse industrial applications.
