INTRODUCING THE RUT260 CELLULAR ROUTER: THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

Have you ever had a hard time choosing between the RUT240 and the RUT360 for your IoT solution? Sometimes, the networking solution requires more power and higher speeds to manage a heavy data load. Other times, power and speed don’t justify the higher price, and a more compact and well-rounded 4G LTE router is the better fit. That’s why we are excited to introduce you to the new RUT260 – a cellular router that takes the best parts of both devices and establishes a sweet spot in the middle.

Choosing the right cellular router for your industrial IoT solutions is never easy. Different devices offer different strengths, solve different problems, and come at different prices.

Sometimes, your solution requires more power and higher speeds to manage a heavy data load. This is where the RUT360 Wi-Fi router answers those needs. Other times, power and speed don’t justify the higher price, and a more compact and well-rounded 4G LTE router like the RUT240 is the better fit.

However, not all solutions fall neatly on either end of the spectrum. Some solutions require higher throughput, for example, but have no need for greater wireless capabilities. You may need more than what the RUT240 offers, but not as much as what the RUT360 brings to the IoT table.

If only you could have the best of both worlds . . .

THE CELLULAR ROUTER SWEET SPOT

The best of both worlds is exactly what the new addition to the Teltonika Networks product portfolio provides. With the RUT240 on one end of the spectrum and the RUT360 at the other, the new RUT260 industrial cellular router hits the sweet spot in the middle.

In a nutshell, the RUT260 cellular router is powerful and lightweight.

Let’s start with power. The RUT260 wields LTE Cat 6 like a fearless warrior charging into the connectivity battlefield, capable of cellular speeds of up to 300Mbps with carrier aggregation.

This is double the speed of the Cat 4 RUT240. Cat 6 has been the main feature of the RUT360 since it was first introduced, and the new RUT260 is certain to honor its older brother’s reputation as a powerful networking device.

In addition, this stellar connectivity is safeguarded by WAN failover, making this 4G LTE router automatically switch to an available backup connection if needed.

In the world of networking devices, more power often means a compromise on size and weight. This isn’t the case for the RUT260, as it was specifically designed to be more compact. This 4G router weighs only 130 grams at 83 x 25 x 74 mm.

These are the same dimensions as the RUT240, with the tiny addition of 5 grams. In contrast, the RUT360 weighs a heftier 247 grams at 100 x 30 x 85 mm. In other words, RUT260 has the LTE Cat 6 power of RUT360, but is smaller and weighs nearly 50% as much!

UNDER THE CELLULAR ROUTER HOOD

Now that we know what the RUT260 is all about, let’s have a look at some of the finer details that differentiate it from the other two cellular routers.

First are wireless capabilities. Unlike the RUT360, which has 2 Wi-Fi antennas, the RUT260 has a single antenna. This means that while both 4G LTE routers feature 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, the RUT360 is still the better fit for industrial IoT solutions requiring a more robust Wi-Fi signal.

Secondly, the RUT260 supports both 4G and 3G technologies but doesn’t support 2G. This makes it unsuitable for older, legacy applications relying on 2G, where RUT240 can be utilized to great effect instead.

Beyond that, this 4G router has a few other key specifications you should know about. It’s powered via a 4-pin industrial DC power socket at 9 – 30 VDC. It has one digital input and one digital output, and two 10/100 Ethernet ports.

This cellular router supports a wide variety of industrial protocols, including MQTT, SNMP, Modbus, and more. It is compatible with the Teltonika Networks Remote Management System (RMS), and runs on the tried-and-tested RutOS.

As you’ve come to expect from Teltonika Networks industrial routers, the RUT260 comes in a sturdy aluminum housing with plastic panels, and can withstand vibrations and extreme temperatures of -40 °C to 75 °C – making it an ideal fit for any adverse industrial environment.

LONG LIVE THE RUT2 SERIES!

We at Teltonika Networks look forward to seeing what applications the RUT260 cellular router will be the ideal choice for. We’re confident it can find a home and excel in your industrial IoT solutions, making them tick with seamless connectivity.

It’s worth reminding that the RUT240, an all-time best seller, is now in its end-of-life stage. Specifically, as of August 2023, it can no longer be ordered. While the RUT241 is its closest direct successor, the new RUT260 offers much of what made our partners fall in love with the RUT240, but with extra power and speed.

Give it a try, and you won’t be disappointed!
