Teltonika unveils three new products: the DAP140 industrial wireless access point, the DAP142 industrial RS232 access point, and the NTP001 NTP server—the first of its kind in our portfolio. In this article, we explore the key specifications of these three products, as well as their functionalities, use cases, and overall value.

2025 is a year of new beginnings. When it comes to the Teltonika networking product portfolio, one of those beginnings can be incapsulated in a single word: industrial.

Today, we are excited to unveil three new products tailor-made for industrial applications: the DAP140 and DAP142 industrial wireless access points and our first-ever network time server—the NTP001. These new products provide high value for industrial IoT solutions at low complexity and costs.

Let’s get right to it.

Industrial-tailored Wireless Access Points

visual-5-in-article-visual.png

The DAP140 and DAP142 are Wi-Fi access points designed to answer the needs of industrial wireless networks and IoT solutions. This is in contrast to our TAP-series access points, such as the TAP200, which were instead designed for the needs of the enterprise and commercial sectors.

At their core, the wireless access points of both the TAP and DAP series perform a similar task: extending and enhancing wireless signals. Their accompanying features and overall build, however, is quite different—and those reflect their differing purposes.

Wireless coverage: the basics

Let’s start with the basic specs. Both the DAP140 and DAP142 are equipped with Wi-Fi 4 capabilities and passive PoE-in and two 10/100 RJ45 connectors.

Thanks to their integrated DIN rail bracket, mounting these Wi-Fi access points is quick and easy. Once deployed, each can support up to 50 simultaneous connections.

As you can expect from Teltonika networking products, the DAP140 and DAP142 are full to the brim with security features, including multiple authentication and access control methods, firewall and attack prevention, and supported VPN protocols such as OpenVPN, ZeroTier, BacNET, and WireGuard.

Beyond basics: industrial-tailored

So, what makes these wireless access points industrial?

First is their build. Unlike the TAP-series, which is housed in sleek, UV-stabilized plastic that makes for seamless blending in commercial and enterprise environments, these new DAP access points are instead encased in rugged aluminium housing.

This dapper design enables them to withstand the most challenging of industrial environments, including temperatures ranging from -40 °C to 75 °C.

Secondly, the DAP140 and DAP142 also feature Wi-Fi mesh and Fast Roaming capabilities. Being Wi-Fi mesh access points is particularly significant; a well-distributed fleet of these access points can form a mesh-formation area of wider total coverage that is larger and more effective than the sum of its parts.

Lastly, these Wi-Fi access points are powered via their 3-pin power input common in industrial settings, thus eliminating the need for additional power adapters.

DAP142: RS232

The key feature distinguishing these two access points is the DAP142’s RS232 port. This additional interface carves a niche for the DAP142, enabling it to directly connect to staple industrial equipment, such as robotic arms and HMIs, when the need arises.

Ready, mesh, go!

To illustrate the value these devices bring to the industrial table, we’ve conjured up a smart factory full of classic equipment you could expect to find there: assembly and packaging lines, AGV robots, etc.

In order to leverage automation, these require interconnectivity and network centralisation, which can be costly and complex to implement by deploying a fleet of mobile routers.

Using a Wi-Fi mesh network enabled by access points tailor-made for industrial applications, on the other end, is low-cost and more efficient.

As it happens, the DAP140 and DAP142 are among the best wireless access points for the job, so go have a read.

Teltonika’s First NTP Server

Connectivity is a valuable resource, which is why we highlight related features when describing our flagship products: from Internet technologies such as 5G and 4G, to LTE categories, carrier aggregation, and wireless capabilities.

But the industrial sector has another valuable resource, one provided by our new NTP001: time.

What is an NTP server?

In a nutshell, a network time server, also known as an NTP server, is a device used to synchronise accurate and precise time among connected equipment. In the case of the NTP001, we’re talking about a stratum-1 NTP server capable of synchronising UTC-traceable time in both public and private networks, online or offline.

Why are NTP servers necessary?

Time is indeed money, and inaccurate time is loss of profits.

Take a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, for example.

Synchronised timestamps are critical in both production and quality control, and are used to prevent batch records discrepancies, auditing difficulties stemming from mismatched event logs, and procedural errors leading to costly defects or downtime.

An NTP server such as the NTP001 is used in such cases for accurate data logging. You can learn more about it in this use case.

Time for specs

Now that we have a better understanding of what an NTP server is, let’s delve into the specifications of the NTP001 in particular.

GNSS

First and foremost are the device’s GNSS capabilities. This is the key to accessing UTC-traceable time without requiring an online network, either public or private. It allows the NTP001 to always maintain precise time regardless of location or, indeed—time.

Interfaces & protocols

visual-6-in-article-visual.png

The time-sensitive network in question is comprised of the end equipment connected to this NTP clock server. Hence, the interfaces via which the NTP001 connects to end devices, as well as the protocols it uses to communicate with them, are paramount.

On the hardware side of things, this time server is equipped with an RS485 port, an RS232 port, a 10/100 RJ45 connector, and multiple digital inputs and outputs. On the software side of things, this NTP clock server supports key communication protocols such as Modbus TCP, MQTT, SNMP, and many others.

These make the NTP001 both physically compatible with staple equipment common industrial settings and capable of communicating via protocols common among that equipment.

Security & durability

Similarly to the aforementioned Wi-Fi mesh access points, this NTP server comes with a robust security profile, including authentication and access control features.

It also features a similar ruggedness—industrial-grade, anodised aluminium housing and panels, which enable it to withstand extreme temperatures and other adverse conditions found in industrial applications.

Lastly, the NTP001 was designed to be a plug-and-play device. As such, you can expect simple installation and configuration at minimum effort, as well as regulatory compliance, improved error traceability and operational efficiency, and minimised process errors.
